Sestri Levante and the Tigullio: what to know before you go

Sestri Levante is one of the most convenient bases in the Tigullio: a train station right in town, two bays just minutes apart on foot, and direct connections to the Cinque Terre.

Getting around

You won't need a car for the old town or the two bays. For the hinterland, some trails, and getting back late in the evening, though, it helps — especially outside regional train hours.

When to go

• Spring and autumn: mild weather, fewer crowds, great for walking
• Summer: more beach services running, but much busier beaches and trains

Don't miss

The walk between Baia del Silenzio and Baia delle Favole, the old town's narrow streets, and — if you have an extra day — a train trip to the Cinque Terre, checking timetables and seasonal restrictions in advance.
